WWF Unforgiven
Charlotte, North Carolina
September 26th, 1999

Before we even get to the matches, JR lets us know that all the refs are on strike :lmao AWESOME! due to an unsafe working environment. As a result, the WWE has enlisted in some scab refs.

Val Venis vs. Steve Blackman
Val comes out to the ring with a black duffle bag, I think this feud ‘cause Val stole Blackmans bag of weapons and added sex toys. Classic WWF, before the match Val gets on the mic. He does his usual opening before saying just like the hurricane that came through he was blown from one place to another :lmao As I noticed earlier the refs are on strike so Brooklyn Brawler is ref’ing this. As for the match, it was really solid for an opener but Blackman is dull as shit when weapons are not involved. Val dominates the early portion until Blackman crotches Val on the top rope and begins to somewhat work that section, until he throws Val back first into the steel steps and rams the spine of Val into the post for two. Once they get back into the ring he begins to work the back while was pretty boring that last a couple of minutes until Val makes a decent comeback even tho he no-sold the back, but the best part of the match is when Lawler says “Val is begging to rise to the occasion” and JR says “He’s done that for money” :lmao FUCKIN’ AWESOME! They go back-and-forth for a bit until Val hits a DDT and finishes him off with the Money Shot for the win. Post-Match: Val grabs the bag and takes out a kendo stick, but Blackman manages to take it away from him and KO’s Val with it. Brawler calls for the medics and out they come; Blackman tries to keep them back, which leads to an incident where the head of security, Jim Dotson, spears Blackman. Technically sound match but it did nothing for me. *3/4

Backstage: Michael Cole tries to interview The Big Show, he asks what happen to the Undertaker (he walked out on SD) Show then tells him did he take a stupid pill, and that takers name is no longer on the site but his is. He’s been at the learning tree and he now has a killer instinct and there is no way he’s leaving here tonight without the WWF title. He then calls Cole a monkey before walking off.

Backstage: Mark Henry comes on to Lillian Garcia and gets slapped.

WWF European Championship: Mark Henry vs. D-Lo Brown
This gets a great moving video package, the story was mark was so fat that he had high blood pressure so the good friend that D-Lo was helped Mark lose weight. This didn't set right with Henry and he'd take revenge on D-Lo by costing him the IC/European Titles against Jarrett. Jarrett was so grateful that he handed the European Title over to Henry :lmao Dr. Tom Prichard is the ref for this. Before the match; Mark comes out with two bitches and he gets on the mic, he tries to get out of the match by claiming Lillian's slap gave him a "brainurism." AWESOME! D-lo is so pissed that, he doesn’t even bob his head and he charges right at Mark that meets him at the ramp. They begin to brawl right off the bat Mark throws him head first into the ring post, Mark doesn’t work it so D’Lo no sells it and begins to use his quickness to get the better of mark but he makes the mistake of charging at Mark and Mark hangs hotshots him on the top turnbuckle, he misses a middle rope squash and D’Lo hits a sweet no hands Plancha Dive onto Mark on the floor. Once they get back in, Mark hits the WSS well at the time it was just a normal splash and begins to work over D’Lo’s head and begin to rag doll him. Mark’s heat looked stiff as fuck; he took D’lo’s head off at least 5 times in the space of 2 minutes. D’lo’s comeback ruled and was the only time me and the crowd gave a fuck, man 90’s D’lo was the shit. The match would end when Mark heads up for the corner 10 punches but D’Lo would counter with a sit-down powerbomb and finish him off with the low-down. Another okay match but just like the first match it felt like a heat or even SD match. ** - **1/4

Backstage: Michael Cole interview of the Acolytes, he asks if they met their match with the Duleyz and Bradshaw says they’ve already sent one team from ECW packing and Faarooq says just cause one of them are black and the other one is white, that’s the compression starts and ends between them. Suddenly, the cameraman picks up the image of Chaz being attacked by a bunch of jobbers. You see, Chaz's girlfriend, Marianna, accused Chaz of beating her.

Backstage: Lillian Garcia interviews Debra along with Miss Kitty, Lillian says it looks like her relationship with Jeff is over and Debra says it is ‘cause the first time he laid his hands on her was the last time. Jeff interrupts and says is that a threat, he then tells her to stay out of his business. He then grabs Miss Kitty with him.

WWF Intercontinental Championship: Chyna vs. Jeff Jarrett (w/Miss Kitty)
Harvey Wippleman is the ref for this match, as Jeff jumps Chyna before she can even get into the ring. It backfires, and she begins to beat on Jeff from one side of the ring to the other. She even low blows him after he tries to come off the top with a double sledge. He then takes out her legs and does pull into the ringpost crotch first spot and she sells it like she has a penis :lmao As Jeff begins to beat on Chyna around ringside he tells JR he’s gonna send her back to the kitchen :lmao Jeff’s dick antics during this was great as he would beat her up then make remarks about how a woman can’t do whatever move he just did. At one point, they do the double superplex off the middle rope and both wrestler lock legs for two. Jeff is pissed now so he hits a one armed DDT but doesn’t work it, instead he talks shit to Moolah and Mae Young who are in the front row, well I guess we all know what’s gonna happen here. Chyna makes a comeback after hitting an electric chair, but he stops her by applying a sleeper. I did somewhat pop as when Jeff was going for a sleeper the 2nd time Chyna revered it into a suplex, she now makes the comeback. They fight on the floor now with Chyna straight up hitting Jeff in the back with the ref looking right at them no DQ :lmao She then backdrops Jeff onto the announce table before attempting the pedigree in the ring but Jeff counters by slingshots her into referee Harvey Wippleman. Miss Kitty slides the guitar in, but Moolah and Mae Young jump in and begin to assault poor Jeff even giving him a double suplex for a huge pop. They whip him into the ropes but Jeff nails them both with clothesline and begins to kick the shit out of them :lmao :lmao :lmao Debra storms out, shoves Kitty down, and hits Jarrett with the guitar allowing Chyna to cover for the win. Post-Match: Tom Prichard comes out and shows footage of Debra hitting Jeff in the head with the guitar, and he reverses the decision. Chyna is pissed and literally beats him the fuck up before giving him a low-blow and the Pedigree. As for the match, in terms of entertainment this is as good as it gets Jeff was so on here. His asshole/dick/sexist comments and antics were great and as soon as Moolah and Mae got involved shit were even better just to see Jeff beat the shit out of them and have Lawler laughing. **3/4

The Dudley Boyz vs. The Acolytes
Jimmy Korderas is the ref for this; he would later become an official ref. This is also the Dudleyz first PPV match. Oh great Bubba is doing the stuttering gimmick he says North Carolina sucks and D-Von says the Acolytes may have given their souls to the dark side but their asses belong to them EWWWWW! D-Von begins to preach about stealing :lmao YAY! Brawling right off the bat, neither team is over so the crowd is dead and I think both teams are heels for this so it’s just awkward. Like a minute in Bradshaw stiffs the fuck out of Bubba with a big boot, Bubba does make a brief comeback by hitting the backsplash off the middle rope for two but Faarooq distracts the ref and Bubba long enough for Bradshaw to superplex him for two. Lawler and JR begins to talk about the beating Mae and Moolah took. While that was happening D-Von manages to tag in and begins to beat on Bradshaw by he gets caught in a fall away slame before tagging Faarooq in. They go back-an-forth for a bit as the Acolytes continue to beat on D-Von but he misses a elbow drop allowing Bubba to tag in and they hit the reverse 3D. D-Von throws Faarooq into the steps and connects with a diving headbutt onto Bradshaw for two. More brawling until Bradshaw crotches D-Von on the top and hits him with a side suplex off the top for two. All 4 go at it now as the Dudleyz hit the 3D on Faarooq. Bradshaw then kills Bubba with the clothesline from hell as Stevie Richards who is wearing Acolytes attire superkicks D-Von allowing Bradshaw to pin him for the win. Post-Match: Stevie Richards (who has the UPN logo on his chest) begins to celebrate but Faarooq hits him with the dominator and Bradshaw powerbombs him. Match was okay but boring, the heel for heel just didn’t work and this had way too much slow pacing from the Faarooq and Bradshaw. **

Hardcore Rules For The WWF Women's Championship: Ivory vs. Luna
They start in the back as Ivory attacks Luna from behind, Luna attempts to throw a TV at Ivory’s head but she ducks :mark: They fight in a production office as Luna puts her hear in a copier and squashes her head. A camera man even gets taken out :lmao They brawl to where a bunch of boxes are and Luna places her on top and hits a big splash onto them for two :lmao this is great, a vertical pin just happen. Ivory attempts to hit Luna with a stick but Tori breaks it up, Ivory shoves her aside and hits Luna with the stick for the win. Fun little brawl.

DWlWhBJ.gif

Backstage: Lillian Garcia interviews Moolah and Mae who are looking a lot better, they then threaten Jeff but ivory cuts them off so Moolah and Mae puts the boots to her :lmao

WWF Tag Team Championship: The New Age Outlaws vs. Edge & Christian
The Outlaws reunified without explanation after months of feuding. They won the titles from the Rock 'n' Sock Connection. E&C challenged them on Heat so here we go. Both teams are faces here, so we just had a heel vs. heel tag match and now we have face vs. face, who books this shit? Man the Outlaws are over as fuck, but with the catchphrases they do before the match it’s hard not to should along. Jimmy Korderas is the ref for this, so we finally get a guy that knows shit. I really liked the opening portion of this was mainly the Outlaws controlling with experience over the young team. That lasted for a few minutes, until uses Road Doggs hair to throw him down to the mat and attempts to work over him but Road Dogg gets the better until again they throw him to the floor and Christian whips him into the steel steps. E&C begins to get aggressive and start playing more of the aggressive heel role here with quick tags and double team moves. I like that they worked over the “already injured Road Dogg back that happen in a match with Jericho” That was more put over by JR which was nice as Lawler makes wave jokes. JR just called Christian, Christopher after both he and Road Dogg both hit crossbodies for the KO :lmao AWESOME! Cut-off spot by E&C before they put the boots to him, they even hit a sweet side slam/inverted DDT combo for two. A minute later Road Dogg hits a desperation double DDT leading to a Billy hot tag, the match breaks down now with all 4 in the ring. Christian hits a inverted DDT on Billy. Suddenly, Gangrel and Matt Hardy pulled Christian out while Jeff Hardy hit Edge with a Missile Dropkick and Billy Gunn hits him with the FameAsser for the win. Fun tag match, until the ending but it would set up the Hardy/E&C feud so I don’t mind. **3/4

Backstage: Lillian Garcia interviews The British Bulldog along with Triple H, she asks him why he cost Rocky the title on SD and he says he only did it ‘cause Ricky was getting too cocky for his own good and needed to be brought down. She then asks Hunter about this relationship, he says that Bulldog and he both have jobs tonight, and implies that Bulldog is going to help him become champion again.

Backstage: Michael Cole interviews Big Bossman; Cole asks if he regrets what happen to pepper and Bossman says he doesn’t regret a dam thing and Cole will regret it if he asks him another question. He will shove the night stick up his ass, and tonight in this match Al Snow will never forget.

Kennel From Hell Match For The WWF Hardcore Championship: The Big Bossman vs. Al Snow
I HATE MY LIFE! I HATE MY LIFE! I HATE MY LIFE! I HATE MY LIFE! I HATE MY LIFE! I HATE MY LIFE! Well here goes nothing; we all know why this feud happened. Boss Man killed Al Snow’s dog pepper and feed it to him :lmao Fuckin’ 1999 The Kennel From Hell involves the old big blue bars cage inside of a Hell in a Cell cage. In between both are several “VICIOUS” Rottweilers’. So to win, you have to escape the blue cage, avoid the man eating dogs and ease the HIAC. Al tries to lock Bossman outside of the blue cage as the handlers bring down the dogs. Bossman climbs up the cage to escape the dogs. He and Al fight on top, and Al drops down in between the cages. The handlers hold back the dogs, which pretty much negates the purpose of having angry dogs in the first place. I HATE MY LIFE! Snow runs away from them to the cell door, but instead of going out I guess he still wants revenge; he climbs up the cell so Bossman can suplex him back into the cage. Bossman sends him into the cage several times and begins to hit him with weapons. Bossman now has some wire cutter and begins to climb the blue cage, and begins to cut the top of the cell so he can climb out that way GENIUS! But all breaks it up so Bossman uses the wire cutters on Al’s ears and takes out some powder. Al smacks is back into Bossman’s face and begins to hit him with weapons. Al attempts to stick Bossman’s hand out of the cage for the dogs to bite but the dogs give no fucks, which allowed Bossman to beat him up and handcuff Al to the turnbuckle. Al just broke some handcuff WHAT! And he climbs the cage catching Bossman on the top rope. Snow takes head out of the bag and nails Bossman with it. Both men begin to climb out the cage; Bossman climbs the left the side with the door while Bossman climbs on top of the roof. Snow kicks open the door and escapes first for the win, Post-Match: Bossman runs out of the cage attempting to sell that the dogs are dangerous, what a guy. FUCK THIS MATCH!

Backstage: Michael Cole interviews Mankind, Mankind says its simple he and Rock are best friends but tonight is every man is for himself.

X-Pac vs. Chris Jericho (w/Curtis Hughes)
It was supposed to be Jericho vs. Ken Shamrock, but Shamrock “got injured” but we all know he made the decision to jump back to shoot-fighting. LOL they are still taking down the blue cage as Jericho cuts a promo, he says Charlotte is Jericho and he’s here to save us hmmmm! He then says he’s here to save this boring PPV :lmao it’s awesome cause it’s true. He says X-Pac is foolish for taking Ken’s spot and he’s gonna end his career just like he did Ken. Tom Prichard has made his recovery after getting his ass handed to him by Chyna, good for him. Real fun mat wrestling and counters at the beginning, but things would get heated after X-Pac does the suck it taunt. They go back and forth for a bit until Jericho clotheslines him and front suplexs him mid-section first on the top rope but doesn’t work it, what a waste. At one point X-Pac goes for the X-Factor, but Jericho counters it to a spinebuster he then tries to lock in the walls but X-Pac kicks him out of the ring and hits a springboard cannonball. Hughes nails X-Pac in full view of the ref :lmao NoDq? And he doesn’t even throw Hughes out. Back in, Jericho catches X-Pac with a missile dropkick and applies a rest-hold to further kill this match for me. X-Pac manages to fight out but Jericho catches him in a sloppy tilt-o-whirl backbreaker, but the crowd doesn’t give a fuck cause something happens in the crowd so Jericho locks in a chinlock just so he can look and see what’s going on :lmao It’s weird seeing Jericho hitting the Lionsault and doesn’t go for the cover and instead punches away at his head. The crowd finally starts duelling "Jericho sucks!" and "X-Pac sucks" chants and JR says the fans are chanting for X-Pac :lmao Jericho hits a sweet springboard dropkick, once X-Pac gets in he hits a spinning heel kick and begins a comeback that was really good, he takes out Hughes, he then attempts the Broncobuster but Jericho stops with a boot to the nuts and hits a back senton off the top followed by a Butterfly Backbreaker for two. Jericho goes up top but X-Pac catches him with a superplex for two, he catches X-Pac going for a ‘rana and powerbombs him twice for two. X-Pac places Jericho into the tree-of-woe and finally hits the Broncobuster that looks like a 69 position EWWWWW! Hughes gets into the ring and nails ref Tom for the DQ. Post-Match: Hughes and Jericho put the boots to X-Pac, but Road Dogg comes down for the save. Match had potential but they missed the boat and didn’t steal the show like they should have. **3/4

Six-Pack Challenge For the Vacant WWF Championship: Triple H vs. Mankind vs. The Rock vs. The British Bulldog vs. The Big Show vs. Kane
Steve Austin is your special guest enforcer, but he doubles as guest commentator AWESOME! We get a video package for this that includes some of the cheesiest and lamest music ever made. HOLY SHIT! Show just jumped over the top rope into the ring. It’s weird watching Bulldog walk to the ring, ‘cause I’m reading Bret’s book and to hear how fucked up he was back in the day it just something else. Austin and Rock’s pops are godly and HHH’s heat is phenomenal. Rocky and Bulldog start, Rock is on here and I liked not more than 30 seconds in we’ve already got a story with HHH and Bulldog teaming up early. We get HHH/Kane for a bit until Kane punches Show in the face leading to Show shoving him off the top, leading to HHH tagging in Mankind but instead Mankind uses this time to beat up on HHH for a bit until Kane attacks him. Show tags in by hitting Mankind in the back with a forearm :lmao and we get Kane/Show for a bit BOOOOOOO! It’s attitude era so it’s’ all punches until Kane hits a dropkick leading to Bulldog tagging in he chopblock Kane but that doesn’t work so Kane take him out, we get bunch of random tags in a space of 20 seconds and we’re back to Bulldog and Rock. Bulldog tags Mankind in but Mankind doesn’t want to fight his best friend so he tags in Kane, smart. Rock/Kane interaction was good and it lead to Rock n’ Sock teaming but Hunter tags in and that leads to Mankind/Hunter and they brawl up the apron as the other wrestlers just watch on the apron :lmao they look stupid just standing there. Thankfully Rock, it like fuck this and attacks Hunter as everyone now joins in and SHIT GETS FUN! Rock/Kane brawl, Hunter/Mankind brawl and Bulldog/Show brawl. Mankind piledrives Hunter on the steel steps and JR points out he has a wedgies’. Kane just sent Rock into the step that cuts his shoulder, after some shit the refs now begin to walk down to the ring like they wanna do some shit. Show and Mankind do some stuff as we hear Mankind calling all the spots, Show hits a jumping elbow for two cause Rock breaks it up and we get Rock/Show which is always hot and fun due to Rock’s energy and how the crowd pops for everything he does. We get some Rock/Hunter and they brawl on the floor with Rock taking Austin’s beer away from him and he spits it into Hunter’s face :lmao Austin says he should beat his ass for spitting his beer instead of drinking it. Kane tombstones Mankind but Show made the blind tag and attempts to chokeslam Mankind but Kane stops that but hitting him with the flying clothesline. Bulldog then hits Kane with the powerslam as Hunter comes in and pedigree’s Bulldog RIP! PARTNERSHIP even though it was pretty much a non-factor the entire match. Rock punches Hunter out of the ring and Mankind double arm DDT’s Rock and applies the mandible claw FUCK YEAH! Rock manages to fight out and hits the rock bottom but Hunter breaks it up at two, Show headbutts everyone and slams Bulldog to the mat, he manages to chokeslam Mankind but the refs bull the ref out of the ring and begin to assault him HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Austin is pissed and begins beating the shit out of all of them :lmao he punches Hebner who tries to run away. Back in the ring, Rock hits a DDT on Hunter for two that got a huge pop. Hunter comes back with a high knee and begins to stomp away on him. He tries to whip Rock but Rock counters into the Rock bottom and hits the people elbow for two ‘cause Show and Mankind pull out of the ring. Bulldog has a chair now and he nails the Rock in the head with it, Austin is back in the ring now and he kills Bulldog with the chair as Hunter hits the pedigree on the Rock for the win. FUCK YEAH! HHH! GREATEST HEEL OF ALL THE TIMES! The match was fine and they did a good job with all the issues and semi-feuds going on around this and adding little interactions with those. For me personally I would have preferred it to have been one of those Attitude era brawls from bell-to-bell and everyone just fight all over the place but this was alright. Also, Hunter and Bulldog needed to be more spotlighted and they should have been double teaming everyone and taking cheap shots IDK *** - ***1/4

ZIOD2rs.gif

Post-Match: Hunter grabs the WWF title away from Austin and gets in his face so Austin gives him the stunner and drinks some beer to end this awful PPV. At least all is right in the world and HHH is world champion again.

This is when Jericho realized he wasn't as great as he thought he was and Japan style don't mean shit in WWE..........Notice he wasn't on the next PPV.

Jericho didn't start coming into his own in the WWF until 2000. Other than his debut, his 1999 run is largely forgettable.

I think that was when he realised he has to stop the 25 moves a match.

Pretty rotten event all in all, with just a few random highlights. Main event and Women's Street Fight being the stand outs.

Agree on Jericho. Liked his heel character in WCW think it was a good way to protect his limited in ring style, and work to his strength on the mic. They tried a little too much too soon in WWF.
