The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Disney+

Disney is moving forward with a The Mighty Ducks reboot for Disney+ customers. The original 1992 movie is a classic '90s family film starring Emilio Estevez, who plays a drunk driving lawyer forced to coach a hockey team as community service. As so often happens, the cold-hearted lawyer learns valuable life lessons while coaching the underdog team. The film and its sequel, D2: The Mighty Ducks, is still beloved by countless '90s kids.

When Disney+ launches on November 12, it will include thousands of movies and TV shows from the Disney archives, including many other classic '90s Disney TV shows. Because Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in a multi-billion deal this year, Disney+ will also feature classic TV shows like The Simpsons. The entertainment giant is hoping to lure away Netflix customers with its giant catalogue of past hits, but original content like The Mighty Ducks TV series are also part of Disney's plans.

Earlier this year, THR reported that ABC Signature Studios was working on a TV show reboot of The Mighty Ducks. Until recently, details on the possible reboot were hard to find. Now, Discussing Film has revealed the production schedule and synopsis of the new Disney series. Unlike the original film, the new series will follow a 13-year-old boy and his mom. When the young player gets booted from the Mighty Ducks hockey team, his mom helps assemble a new team, coach, and practice area. The show is tentatively scheduled to start filming in February 2020 in Vancouver, with an eventual release on Disney+. The Mighty Ducks original screenwriter, Steven Brill, will join Josh Goldsmith, Cathy Yuspa, George Heller, and BRad Petrigala as executive producers on the new Disney series.

Decades after its release, The Mighty Ducks and its sequels are still beloved by legions of fans. It's a quintessential '90s movie with a heartwarming story and classic slapstick comedy. However, based on the rough synopsis, the new Disney+ series sounds like it's aimed at younger viewers rather than nostalgic millennials. Even so, the reboot could help introduce the franchise to a new generation of viewers.

Disney, perhaps more so than any other entertainment company, is well placed to capitalize on nostalgia. The company spent a considerable amount of money producing an original Star Wars show, The Mandalorian, for its November 12 launch. In addition, the company has been hard at work creating live-action remakes of classic animated movies like The Lion King and The Lady and the Tramp. With so many classic movies, TV shows, and franchises in its legendary archive, Disney+ certainly has a lot to attract viewers from every generation. Of course, there's also bad news for Ducks fans. While fans of The Mighty Ducks will eventually be able to watch the reboot on Disney+, the movies reportedly won't be available on the streaming platform, at least not yet.

It's been past due for a Mighty Ducks Reboot. It was my Childhood to the point where I burned through the VHS tapes of the Movies. Personally I liked 2 and 3 even more than 1 over the Years and it was one of the reasons why I got into Hockey today. Hearing the story it's interesting that The Ducks are going to be The Hawks in a sense and a new team going to be created out of it. So how is it The Mighty Ducks then if the team this kid goes to a new team then? Still I love to see Joshua Jackson and Emilo Estevez come back like other Ducks. You could go into Conway being a failed NHL Player and him being the Coach of the new team and Gordon being the Coach of the Ducks or hell you can make Charlie the Coach of the Ducks. Possibilities are endless, but they better give us the Bash Brothers!

So basically it's Cobra Kai.

I mean Cobra Kai I dug both Seasons. It's a great balance of bringing back the stuff we loved in the Karate Kid Franchise, well created new lore and stuff for us to get behind. I'm hype for Season 3 so much, so if they can hit all those buttons in this people will come to watch it.

Goldberg needed to call Bombay......because he didn't get any help from his supposed life long friends.....so now he has to coach a team of misfits because his issues may have him do real time.

It's Minnesota.....they're a wacky state.....book it.

Also....this is how you keep up with sporadic cameos from the original cast.

I resent that remark, son.

Don't have much investment in this. But don't have anything against them doing it either. Think it works better as a movie than TV thing though.

Movies are nearing their own little end game......everyone collecting and flat out stockpiling IP for streaming platforms......quality is not going to even mean a thing. It's a weapons race now.

I'm not convinced of that. Last year was actually the highest grossing year at the UK Box office since the early 70's. I think when times are bad politically like now people are more likely to escape to the cinema.

Quality needs to mean something. Netflix has peaked. The streaming platforms that are going to compete with them are the ones that stand out. Don't forget a lot of Netflix's success has been on the back of original content. Not so much on their back catalogue. WWE can thrive that way because older wrestling fans are big on nostalgia and until AEW popped up there was no possible threat.

Disney+ broke the internet.

Streaming is where people are going to get their movies and TV shows.

Just because Netflix is getting played out, doesn't mean the other platforms won't take over.....it's not like the collapse of Myspace killed social media.

As I was just finishing watching D3: The Mighty Ducks a film I think is highly underrated, and looking for a gif of the Hans Tribute from the film I heard some news. I follow a Podcast on Twitter named The Quack Attack. These guys love Mighty Ducks like I do, but they got the scoop that Steve Brill who has been apart of the Ducks franchise since the beginning is saying were getting 10 Episodes, and Emilio Estevez is apart of the project!

If Adam Banks isn't a happily married gay man whose hockey past haunts him because locker room toxic masculinity and his while arc is his old friends trying to bring him back to his first love.....hockey.

Than fuck this.

Yeah Banksy was the one worrying about I gotta kill it out there for the Scouts. I gotta make my Dad proud, it wouldn't shock me to see him get that type of arc. Maybe he breaks his Wrist again like in the second film and he comes back too early and he has to retire from Hockey and it tears him up inside. Charlie's Character needs to be in this..like I won't watch it at all or I'll just put it on the back burner if Joshua Jackson is not the lead role in this. He's another that loved Hockey and was willing to go to the NHL at all cost, maybe he does and he gets kicked outta the league.
