AMA Matches

How many people really enjoying reading the fully written out detailed matches? How many of you skip to see who’s won and what the finish was? Do you prefer these long form over BTB style recaps of the story and the finish?

I read them (and enjoy them) for the most part, very rarely skim but I'm on record that I'd prefer more summarization with big spots and the finish described in detail. Could still be a few paragraphs for each match, but at first it could just be more describing the pace, who has control, how the crowd is reacting, etc. Instead of move for move

example though: some matches, the meat and potatoes, dont really have to be that much longer than a BTB style match writeup (obviously) not just the finish). Juice does them well for example. add commentary in between , intros and post match if needed and thats probably enough for your lower and mid card matches

I don’t necessarily want shorter matches. I feel most of the time if someone has the time to write out a full match, the extra paragraph or two wouldn’t hold them up that much longer. It’s more so recap versus writing a full match, move by move like Chris said.

A recap can be written really quickly and just tell the meat and potatoes and the finish and whatnot.

A hybrid style of recaps for smaller matches and full written matches for main events is certainly possible.

Even as we stand now I don’t ever tell writers how long the match has to be and there’s some writers that already write matches a little shorter than others and I sometimes will take this into account when I’m deciding who gets what matches so that’s kind of already some thing we do I’m just wondering whether or not more BTB style recaps would be helpful.

im not opposed to more condensed formats on smaller matches and maybe longer writeups on title matches/bigger matches? i think angles and entrances are also a big part of the show, however.

Entrances are something so minor in theory, and yet they are great for like setting the tone of a match. Like the commentary summing up the story, what it means for the competitors, changes in their demeanor compared to normal, etc.

As for me, I read and enjoy the matches and try to pay attention to them. Even if I don't have the minor detail of every match, I know what happens, what the segments are. Then over time, especially if I end up facing someone, I focus on their stuff in particular as I re-read to fill in the gaps.

However, if like a condensed summary with big spots gets the shows out quicker, I am not opposed. Especially if we find like a good template to follow just to keep some consistency and still have quality.

Of course with the segments/angles fully written out since those kind of need to be.

I fully admit with my writing style, my matches tend to be longer. Doesn't matter if it was AMA, LDW, RWK, even NGW a bit, I guess I just have grown to naturally have longer matches since usually I plan them out and as I write sometimes I cut or add things. Then I try to add detail with commentary, maybe a little narration. I'm at least a bit thankful that people seemed to enjoy my matches so far even with an occasional criticism of length and I feel even if my characters aren't involved I try to showcase each person. Though I usually finish whatever matches I have on time/near on time (even LDW and RWK. One time we had a Rumble show, me and another person wrote a 25 man rumble match, 90 pages, and there was only two other matches on the card, both singles matches, the Rumble was done before the other two), but frankly I get it, especially as real life comes hard and people all have jobs, school, or both. Finding some way to maybe summarize the matches may be ideal.

Like say, this format:

Entrances w/commentary:

Summary:

Insert paragraph about general story.

Spot.

Spot.

Maybe something about the story etc.

Finishing spot:

Winner:
Joe Random
Time: 15:32

The first few holdups were entirely on me. I’ll own it.

The last two were me waiting on matches.

I’ve actually got it down past now that when I get everything I need I can get a show up within 4 days.

Just thinking of a way to maybe cut down that wait where I’m just waiting on stuff to get to my inbox and stuff.

People should check out Juicyverse. That’s kinda what I’m thinking. It’s mostly recap of the story and finish.

And then the segments that move the story forward.

I'll say it again, even if it can be frustrating, I'm always understanding that IRL stuff comes first, but I think we all would like some flow, that was why I made said post before. I think you mentioned that to me. Like a week to get the promos, take a few days to decide, then maybe four days to write, a couple days to format and post. If that's the goal, then I think we can work towards something similar over time. Even if we start small by having slightly longer deadlines but getting consistent in hitting them or at least being within a couple days of it.

That’s the goal for the schedule so if recaps can get us there, I thought it was worth asking everyone.

I'll maybe check that out after I'm done writing the match since at least this show will have fully written stuff. And even if the shows become more condensed, I have my "Meanwhile in Japan" series I am going to do with Cali whenever I am bored and have time I can get my match epics out of my system ;)

And honestly, I think it's worth the thought and experimentation.
